Kitchen and food service careers
How to find chef jobs in Tanzania
Kitchen hiring gets more specific as the property gets busier. Name your section, service, standards, and level clearly so a hiring team can see where you will be useful.
Name your section
Chef is not one job title
A hiring team needs to know whether your experience is in hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry, bakery, grill, breakfast, staff meals, banqueting, or a combination. Put the section you know in your headline and opening profile.
If you have worked up through commis or chef de partie roles, show the progression without inflating your level. A clear description of your station and service is more useful than a grand title with no detail behind it.
- List the sections you can cover and the service periods you know.
- Name the property setting: hotel, resort, lodge, camp, restaurant, bakery, or events kitchen.
- Explain whether you trained staff, managed orders, checked stock, or worked under a chef's direction.
Show standards
Describe the habits that protect food quality
Food safety, timing, consistency, storage, cleaning, and communication are part of the job even when the listing focuses on dishes. Mention the routines you followed and the responsibilities you owned.
A lodge or resort kitchen may have different supply and staffing conditions from a city restaurant. If you have worked with menus, local ingredients, dietary requests, remote deliveries, or staff meals, include the details that are true for you.
- Include food-safety training or certificates only when you hold them and can provide the document.
- Describe prep lists, mise en place, service pace, stock rotation, and waste control in plain language.
- Mention dietary, allergy, or special-request experience when it is part of your real work.
Choose the setting
Match your kitchen experience to the property
Hotels and resorts often need consistent service across breakfast, restaurants, bars, room service, banquets, and staff meals. Lodges and camps may value independence, careful stock use, and comfort with a smaller team. Restaurants may focus on speed, menu consistency, and the rhythm of a busy service.
Read the source page and application instructions before you decide the role is right. A role can be real and still be a poor fit for your experience, location, or availability.
Make the next step easy
Send a focused kitchen application
Lead with the role, section, location, and availability. Attach the documents the employer asks for and use the subject line they specify. If a portfolio, menu sample, or references are requested, send material that reflects work you can explain.
Do not copy the same long message to every kitchen. A short note that names the property and role will usually be easier to read and easier for you to follow up on.
Common questions
Questions worth answering before you apply
What is the difference between chef de partie and commis work?
Titles vary by property, but chef de partie usually carries responsibility for a section while a commis role is more closely supervised and developmental. Read the actual duties and use your CV to describe the level you have handled.
Should a chef CV include a menu?
Only when the employer asks for one or when a short, relevant sample helps demonstrate your work. Keep it accurate and do not present a team menu as work you created alone.
Can hotel cooks apply for lodge kitchen jobs?
Often, if the duties and working arrangement fit. Highlight independence, stock control, menu flexibility, staff meals, and the conditions you have actually worked in.
