Application guide for Tanzania job seekers

How to write a hospitality CV for jobs in Tanzania

A hospitality CV works when an employer can picture the work you have done, the setting you know, and the shifts or responsibilities you can take on. Put those details where they are easy to find.

Start with the role

Name the work you want before you list everything you have done

A general CV can make a strong candidate look unfocused. Put the role or department near the top, then choose experience that helps an employer judge that role. A front office application should lead with guest communication and reservations. A kitchen application should lead with the section, service, and food preparation you know.

You can keep one master CV, but change the opening profile and the order of your experience for each application. The goal is not to make your history sound bigger. It is to make the relevant part visible sooner.

  • Use a clear target such as Front Office Agent, Room Attendant, Chef de Partie, Safari Guide, or Reservation Agent.
  • Name the property setting you know: city hotel, beach resort, lodge, restaurant, travel office, camp, or guest house.
  • Keep the first lines factual. State your location, experience level, languages, and realistic availability.

Show the work

Replace broad adjectives with tasks, settings, and proof

Words such as hardworking, friendly, and passionate are easy to write and hard to assess. Keep them if they sound like you, but give them a practical anchor. Explain what you handled, who you worked with, and what a normal shift required.

For example, say that you handled check-ins, booking confirmations, guest requests, and shift handovers at a city hotel. Say that you prepared breakfast service, followed hygiene routines, and supported stock counts in a lodge kitchen. The detail is what lets a reader understand your level.

  • Include the tools or systems you have actually used, such as a property-management system, POS, booking platform, or stock sheet.
  • Add the size or pace of the work only when you can describe it honestly, such as a busy breakfast service or a small team on a remote lodge.
  • Mention a responsibility you owned, not only the tasks you assisted with.

Make availability clear

Location, languages, documents, and start date matter in hospitality hiring

Employers need to know whether your situation fits the property. State where you are based, whether you can relocate, the date you can start, and the type of schedule you can accept. If you are applying for a lodge or island role, say whether you understand the accommodation or rotation arrangement described in the listing.

List languages with a useful level rather than a vague claim. Include certificates, licences, references, and work documents when the role asks for them. Do not attach a document you cannot explain or verify.

Final pass

Make the application easy to answer

Before you send a CV, check the employer name, role title, phone number, email address, and attachments. Open the final file on your phone as well as your computer. A clean PDF with a sensible filename is easier to keep track of than a file called final-final-new.pdf.

Read the job description again and answer the actual request in a short note. If the employer asks for a recent photo, references, or a particular subject line, follow that instruction only when it appears in the employer's source or application route.

  • Remove old phone numbers, outdated employers, and availability that no longer applies.
  • Use one consistent date format and check spelling of property and company names.
  • Keep a copy of what you sent so you can answer follow-up questions without guessing.

Common questions

Questions worth answering before you apply

How long should a hospitality CV be in Tanzania?

Keep it as long as the relevant experience requires, but make the first page easy to scan. Remove repetition and older detail that does not help the role you are applying for.

Should I include a photo on my hospitality CV?

Only include a photo when the employer or application instructions request one. Follow the source instructions and use a recent, appropriate image if it is required.

What should I write if I have no hotel experience?

Translate relevant work into hospitality tasks without overstating it. Customer service, food handling, cleaning, driving, sales, events, bookings, and teamwork can be useful when you explain the setting and responsibility clearly.
