Front office and guest relations
How to find hotel receptionist jobs in Tanzania
Reception is more than a smile at the desk. It is the handover between reservations, rooms, payments, transport, and the guest in front of you. Show that you understand the whole flow.
The desk is a system
Explain how you keep a guest stay moving
A strong receptionist application shows the links between the front desk and the rest of the property. Mention check-in, check-out, room status, guest requests, payments, messages, and shift handover when those tasks match your experience.
If you worked in a small hotel or guest house, you may have covered several departments. That is useful context. Say what you handled yourself and what was passed to a manager or another team.
- Name the property type and the kind of guest contact you handled.
- Describe the booking, payment, or property-management systems you have used.
- Give one example of how you solved a guest problem or kept a handover accurate.
Languages and tone
Make communication part of your evidence
Guest-facing work rewards calm, clear communication. List the languages you can use with guests and colleagues, then connect them to a task such as explaining a booking, handling a request, or writing a confirmation.
Avoid claiming fluency unless you can work comfortably in that language. It is better to state an honest working level and show how you use it than to be caught out during a real guest interaction.
- Include spoken and written ability separately when the difference matters.
- Mention phone, email, WhatsApp, booking, or in-person communication you have handled.
- Keep your tone professional in the application itself. The message is part of the first impression.
Different properties
A city hotel, Zanzibar resort, and safari lodge need different proof
In a city hotel, speed, room coordination, payments, and practical problem-solving may dominate the shift. In a resort, guests may need more help with activities, transfers, dining, and longer stays. In a lodge, reception can overlap with reservations, guiding information, transport, and remote operations.
Use the employer's source page to understand the setting before you apply. Then bring the closest experience to the top of your CV instead of sending the same general paragraph everywhere.
Application check
Put the useful facts in the first scan
Your opening profile should answer four questions quickly: what role you want, where you have worked, what systems or duties you know, and when you can start. Put your phone number and location where they will not be missed.
If a role includes night work, relocation, staff accommodation, or a seasonal contract, answer that requirement plainly. Do not wait for an employer to guess from your CV.
Common questions
Questions worth answering before you apply
What experience is useful for a hotel receptionist job?
Front desk, reservations, guest relations, customer service, payments, phone work, and accurate handovers can all be relevant. Explain the setting and responsibility instead of relying on the job title alone.
Do hotel receptionist jobs require a property-management system?
Some roles do, and the specific system varies. Name the systems you have actually used. If you are new to a system, be clear about the related booking, payment, or records experience you do have.
Can I apply for reception and reservations roles with one CV?
You can use the same work history, but change the opening profile and evidence order. Reception should lead with guest contact and handovers. Reservations should lead with accuracy, booking channels, confirmations, and follow-up.
